National Memorial Arboretum

Remembrance Centre permanent exhibition

Pitch material and Concept design 2014

(with Real Studios)

The National Memorial Arboretum, in Staffordshire, is the UK’s year-round centre of Remembrance.

The brief was to create a permanent exhibition in a new centre, designed by Glenn Howells Architects, that would act as an introduction to the idea of Remembrance as well as a launch point to the extensive Arboretum grounds.

After developing sketch and diagram material for the successful pitch my role was to collaborate with the client team on content and interpretation, and then steer the initial concept design accordingly.

As well as the main exhibition space, several existing outdoor shelter structures required interpretive design treatments. Here I proposed using basic sun tunnels to focus light and attention onto central table displays, and a simple display band around the interior that would also frame new viewing windows to key memorials.

The project opened to the public in October 2016.
