Eureka! Science + Discovery
Masterplanning and interpretive design
Developing initial ethos and experience ideas
(with Real Studios)
STEAM for new audiences.
Eureka! Science + Discovery opened in 2022 at its Wirral waterfront location.
I’ll say from the outset that my involvement in how this project developed was limited due to commitments on other projects. My role was purely in terms of interpretive design set up and the ‘rationale’ for visitor experiences.
What follows is an overview of my input at the early stages of the project – in establishing a concise vision statement against which proposed content and experiences could be ‘sense checked’, and in setting some key principles in how content and experience could be structured to maximise engagement in STEAM.
It’s worth taking a quick look at the condensed version of my ‘Eureka Proposition’ workings, which were aimed at getting us all on the same page, and keeping us there, as we progressed through the project stages –
Below are a few ‘key diagrams’ that sought to set some strong foundations and clear directions for the project –
Starting from an audience point of view, their immediate world, and branching off to explore the ‘What if’ – this exercise was repeated for a number of broad subject areas, in effect trying to clarify the brief for specific experiences. One further example –
Including experience storyboarding and quick sketch ideas –
Up to the point of content plan bubble diagrams, after which the project was developed and implemented by Real Studio’s core team for the project.
