Supporting

I’ve been fortunate to support some great projects, charities, and colleges over the years.

Charities

A while ago I did a small amount of work for the 999 Club (support for homeless people), putting together some ideas for how they might use their spaces differently at their base in Lewisham. This encouraged me to contact the Hubbub Foundation, and I put together some initial ideas in relation to a couple of their campaigns. I’ve included here a few sketches and images from Hubbub’s ‘Protein Pressures’ campaign; some of my ideas were implemented for an installation in the Utopia Treasury space (Great Arch Hall space at Somerset House’s Embankment entrance) during the Utopia 2016 festival.

UnBox LABS

Background – The annual UnBox Festival in Delhi began in 2011 when a group of creative agencies and individuals, under the banner of The Box Collective, decided to organise an event that would celebrate creative collaboration across a broad spectrum of creative disciplines. It sprang from a desire to capture and share the wealth of creativity that was happening outside of, but still having a strong influence on, the day-to-day work of the group in India.

Context – After the 2013 UnBox Festival, the UnBox team decided that in 2014 the Fellowship component should be separated to allow for more dedicated focus and resource. It was decided that this ‘UnBox LABS’ event would be hosted at the National Institute of Design (NID) in Ahmedabad. Quicksand, the leading agency in the UnBox team, wanted someone to have an overview of their two-week UnBox LABS – someone who could remain one step removed from the organisation and running of the LABS, observing and documenting the process, in order to help pull together an end-of-LABS keepsake for the participating Fellows as well as a post-LABS publication.

Being in Delhi at the time, I got in touch with Quicksand and the British Council and offered to help out in whatever way might be needed. Joining the team one week before the LABS was about to happen, I decided my first task was to quickly tease out exactly what the vision, mission and values of UnBox were – and from this starting point the rest would be relatively straightforward.

Input – In the run up to the UnBox LABS, I worked with the team to fine tune the two-week agenda of activities. During the LABS I oversaw the production of the Fellow’s keepsake booklet, and an A2 poster which was digitally printed and screen-printed using the NID facilities. My draft narrative for the post-LABS publication was also used to brief the film-maker who was documenting the LABS.

Back in London I working with the British Council, and Quicksand remotely, to curate their event at the Alchemy Festival at the Southbank Centre in May 2014.

This fortuitous opportunity to work with the fantastic UnBox team is the highlight of my time in India, and I’m continually inspired by the work that Quicksand does.

Mentoring

I’ve also been mentoring University of the Arts London students, from several of their colleges and design courses, for the last five years.
